This beautifully illustrated volume presents the great adventure of Western painting in the 17th and 18th centuries through the phases of a rich and complex period that can be described from the cultural standpoint as "Baroque." The 500 paintings represent about 100 of Europe's most important painters from Spain, Italy, Flanders, Holland, France, Germany, Austria, and Britain. Zutti (Italian art historian and author) has organized the volume in terms of the national schools of the different countries, with a distinction made between the 17th and 18th centuries, thus facilitating a knowledge and understanding of painting as it emerged from a complex climate which they then came to epitomize and symbolize. The price of the volume is inexplicably low. Oversize: 10x11.25
