This magnificent catalogue contains descriptions of 2,343 of the most important books in the U. of Iowa's Hardin Library, nearly doubling the number of items contained in the previous edition, which was published in 1980. The arrangement of the catalogue is chronological by year of birth of the authors whose works are included and the books described are landmarks in the history of medicine published in the past five centuries. Reproductions of some 200 notable illustrations, with a number in color, have been selected from the listed books, and references to pertinent descriptions in other major biomedical bibliographies and a name index are included.
