The authors here relate the events and consequences of Zimbabwe's land reforms in 2000, a time when 170,000 black farmers took over 4,000 white farms. The treatment is more positive in many ways than most media coverage of the era as one of oppression and hardship, although it certainly does not ignore the abuses of the government of Robert Mugabe. It is, as the authors say, a story of how the poor can collectively help themselves and improve their lives, even in dangerous circumstances.
