Chrétien de Troyes' Old French romance La Chevalier de la Charrette is the earliest extant tale to recount the love between Lancelot and Queen Guinevere, and has been central to the Arthurian cycle since it was written. Here scholars introduce the romance and look at its context and language, ahistorical perspectives on digital philology, and the Charrette Project and beyond. The topics include intimations of ambiguity in some initial images, from Charrette to Rigomer in manuscript and narrative cycles, a conjointure of philology and literary theory in the early Charrette Project, and implications of the digitization of Old French fabliaux. There is no index. The publisher is the Arizona Center for Medieval and Renaissance Studies. Annotation ©2012 Book News, Inc., Portland, OR (booknews.com)
