Offering advice for policy makers, managers, and scientists, this report introduces the US Geological Survey (USGS) and discusses its history and its mission and vision statements. It identifies forces that influence the USGS, considers how the USGS might evolve to meet future needs, and discusses the administrative challenges the agency will face.
