Lansing, Michigan. We open on DEBBIE TISDALE's 30th birthday. Her gift is a small inheritance of $50,000 from her estranged father BOYD (80s). Debbie plans to use the money to quit her dead end jobs, clean up a minor prescription drug habit and finally complete her nursing degree, but the odds are against her. She soon learns that Boyd, under the influence of his much-younger wife ROSE (50s), has cut Debbie out of his will.
