Best of Enemies is a recent UK work of fiction which uses real WW2 era incidents, texts and individuals, to posit an entirely new take on a key moment in US history – in short that British Intelligence actively induced and facilitated the Japanese attack on Pearl Harbour in order to pull America into the war. Told from a British perspective (which controversially in places American readers may find surprisingly critical of the US), the book interweaves two narratives, that of a modern day researcher investigating security service files for a planned BBC TV series, and the account of a Naval Intelligence officer of a Top Secret Operation during Britain’s darkest hour of 1940. Eventually the two stories converge to reveal the shocking secret truth, which then explains much about subsequent Anglo American relationships right up to the present day.It will be of interest to anyone who doesn’t necessarily believe the established story of the USA’s entry to the war, or that they’ve been told the truth about history, as well as giving new currency to the age old dictum, ‘Nations don’t have friends, they simply have interests.’
