First published in 1958, this is one of the first and perhaps the most widely known of celebrated English travel writer Eric Newby's many works. After some years working in the fashion industry, Newby and a companion decided to go mountain climbing in the Hindu Kush of Afghanistan, despite having almost nothing in the way of climbing experience.
