Seventeen international contributors present the state of the art of the Dezert-Smarandache Theory, or DSmT, of plausible and paradoxical reasoning for information fusion. The theory proposes a new mathematical framework to deal with the combination of uncertain, imprecise, and highly conflicting sources of information expressed in terms of generalized basic belief functions. The work, of interest primarily to researchers and engineers working in data fusion and artificial intelligence, is edited by Dezert (Office National d'Études at de Recherches Aérospatiales, Chatillon, France) and Smarandache (U. of New Mexico) themselves. It has no subject index. Annotation ©2004 Book News, Inc., Portland, OR (booknews.com)
