Disc 1. Invasion and Breakout: June 6th, 1944: The time for preparations is over as the Allies launch the biggest land invasion in history. Casualties mount as the invaders gradually gain a foothold. The beachhead in Normandy is expanded and strengthened as Nazi V-1 rockets hit England and an Atlantic hurricane causes an unexpected loss of men, ships and equipment. The French cities of Cherbourg and Caen fall to the Allies. After the Nazi counter attack fails at Mortain, the Allies close on Paris. Word spreads to the people sparking a Parisian revolt. The Germans retreat. Paris is free! (60 minutes) Hot Pursuit: August 15th, 1944, the Allies land between Toulon and Cannes, France and quickly force the retreating Nazis back to the Rhine before the offensive stalls. Operation Pluto is launched to supply the Allies with fuel through 20 lines linking Britain with the French Coast.
