Through Sophie's Eyes introduces young readers to the finger spell alphabet and will help children learn acceptance and compassion for their peers who have disabilities. The story is about Sophie, a deaf girl who overcomes obstacles and has a positive attitude while achieving her goals. Sophie loves to dance and is thrilled when she receives a flyer at school about a new dance class being offered. When she arrives, the other girls are confused when they see her talking with her hands and immediately think that because she is deaf, she cannot dance. In turn, the girls are given the opportunity to see through Sophie's eyes, learning an important life lesson. Using examples of vocabulary words from the story, their accompanying finger spell diagrams are displayed on each page in diagrams that are large and clearly drawn for a young audience.
