Papers from a February 2009 symposium, 24 in all, describe the latest advances in the creation of valuable products from seafood processing byproducts. Papers are in sections on new products and uses, stickwater and wash waters, storage, stabilizing, and processing, and proteins, hydrolysates, and oils. Some topics include functional proteins from catfish roe, Alaska fish byproducts as a feed ingredient for reindeer, and recovery and use of protein from surimi processing water. Some other subjects are storage effects on separated pink salmon processing byproducts, and the effects of extraction and purification processes on the quality of salmon oils.
