The CIP does not show Facts on File at the head of the title, despite its appearance on the cover and title page. Although identified by the publisher as a series, four volumes are planned, and it does not seem to be an open-ended project. When completed, the set will encompass American literature from 1588 to 1988, supplying the whole published canon of every significant US author, along with a full but selective list of significant works about the author.
