A Legacy of Hope is the story of Hope Stout who died on January 4, 2004 from bone cancer. In November, 2003, Hope was asked by the Make-A-Wish Foundation what her wish would be. We she found out that 155 children were waiting on their wishes to be funded, instead of thinking of herself, she thought of the other kids. Her wish to grant all the other kid's wishes completely took the Make-A-Wish Foundation by surprise, but they got busy. It was a daunting task but the people of Charlotte, inspired by Hope's unselfish wish, pulled together. At the Celebration of Hope gala on January 16, 2004, an event that Hope herself planned, it was announced that $1.1 million had been raised and all the wishes granted. Unfortunately Hope did not live to see her wish come true; but her spirit keeps rockin' on.Each January the Celebration of Hope gala raises in excess of $500,000 for the Make-A-Wish Foundation and Hope's legacy of giving continues.
