The product of an international workshop that was held in St. Petersburg, Florida, April 1993, under the auspices of the Epilepsy Foundation of America. The objectives describing the scope of the workshop and addressed in the presentations include: develop technical and operational definitions of quality of life (QOL) in epilepsy comprehensive enough to be applied to both research and advocacy; set forth methods for assessing QOL in epilepsy; assure that such QOL assessments can be compared to QOL determinations in persons with other medical conditions; indicate the implications and applications of this definition of QOL for clinical practice; forecast trends in QOL research and applications; and define needs for additional work and research.
