After introducing their criteria for what constitutes a 'realist' approach to history as "non-idealized science," the coauthors of Ernst Mach's Influence Spreads (Sentinel Open Press: 2009) present chapters profiling the lives and thinking of six influential realists. These include five major scientists (Galileo, Descartes, Newton, Darwin, and Planck--who rates two chapters) and philosopher John Locke, whose ideas on realism in epistemology and rejection of dogmatism influenced what they term "wise thinking." The book is in large print. No information is provided on the authors' credentials. Distributed by Enfield Annotation ©2011 Book News, Inc., Portland, OR (booknews.com)
