For the revised edition of this textbook, Schirokauer (Columbia U.) is now joined by Brown (U. of Michigan). Brown is author of the first section of the text covering the beginnings of Chinese and East Asian civilization, through the Han dynasty, and outlining the institutional, intellectual, and political traditions now revered as classical. Schirokauer is author of the remaining four, chronologically-ordered sections, from the fall of the Han in 220 C.E. to present-day China. The preface notes that there is much that is new in the second edition, however, additional specific changes from the first to second edition are not identified.
