Reflecting new developments in the field, five new chapters are included in this edition: epidemiology and osteoporotic fractures, the enhancement of fracture healing, outcome studies, imaging, and surgical navigation. Other chapters have received substantial revision, including those on the multiply injured patient, war wounds and limb salvage, compartment syndrome, periprosthetic fractures, and complications. Two CD-ROMs contain narrated videos of upper and lower limb surgical approaches and the sections on pearls and pitfalls of care have been expanded. Each of the 56 chapters are heavily illustrated, often with x-rays, and consist of a section of introductory history, followed by epidemiology, pathogenesis, diagnosis, clinical diagnosis, surgical and applied anatomy, complications, future directions, and references. Each chapter is authored by a specialist or group of specialists of that particular type of fracture.
