In "Actively Adirondack: Reflections on Mountain Life in the 21st Century," Randy Lewis celebrates life as a mother, daughter and wife and her connection to the natural wonders of the remote Adirondack Mountains in New York state. These essays and poems describe the social state of life in the 6-million-acre Adirondack Park, from biting insects, walks through the woods and encounters with black bears to family life, community spirit and backwoods archaeology. Her aim: to capture a snapshot of life in the Adirondacks at the turn of the 21st century "for my sons, my unborn grandchildren, my friends, my husband, myself and friends of the spirit, a spirit shared just by living here."
