Revising the calculus textbook first written by Rogawski, who died in 2011, Adams has shifted to focus less on memorizing specific formulas and more on understanding the underlying concepts, so that students can see the logical progression that generates a process or technique. He has also changed some notation to align with standard usage, provides more explanation of derivations, reorders and adds topics, and presents new examples and figures.
