Jacoby (Bowling Green State University) collects 65 readings on criminology, 17 of which are new to this edition. Readings span the chronology of the field, from 1764 to 1992, and are organized in sections on classic descriptions of crime, theories of causation of crime, and the social response to crime. Included in the collection are both authors whose work is widely recognized as significant in itself, and authors whose work substantially influenced the thinking of subsequent scholars, although their conclusions may have been repudiated. Although section introductions are included, there are no introductions to the readings. The book is intended for advanced undergraduates and graduate students.
