New York: W.J. Johnston, 1882. 3rd edition. Sm 4to hardcover in emerald green cloth with alternating plain and floral banding stamped in black to front and blind to rear at top and bottom of boards, gilt titling to spine, and decorative black titling on elaborate gilt banner to front board. 160pp. B/W illustrations throughout. Fair. Boards and spine scuffed and rubbed. Edgeworn and bumped, with corners frayed. Spine tips frayed and worn. Page edges toned and damp spotted. Hinges cracked. Dampstain to upper gutter of front pastedown-title page. Short gifter's inscription, dated 1910, inked to second front endpaper. Pages moderately toned, about typical for their age, and dampstained and smudged throughout. Dampstain to upper gutter of about page 123-rear pastedown. Horizontal tear, several inches long, to rear endpaper from hinge. Despite the wear, the gilt remains bright and clear, and the many illustrations remain richly humorous.
