Dark brown yapped leather boards with black triple paneling, double horizontal spine bands, gilt front and spine lettering and red dyed page edges. Front board and backstrip detached, but present. Backstrip laid-in, heavily chipped and worn. Heavy edgewear. Boards heavily rubbed. Pages age toned. Slight near dime-sized dampstaining to the lower right of the 'S' in 'Yachts.' and quarter-sized slight dampstaining to the lower left on the half title page. Light typical period foxing and finger smudging throughout. Early penciled short gifter's inscription: 'Chasmshore // (from?) // "Whittiman" // Sept 14, 1888.' to the center of the front free endpaper. Inquire if you need further information.
