London, Edinburgh: Archibald Fullarton & Co., no date stated, but statue depicted to front board was erected in 1852 and the previous owner, Alexander Davidson, lived at the listed address (Addison House, Ridgway, Wimbledon) from at least 1877. Div. 4. Sm 4to hardcover in blue cloth with rendering of Edinburgh's statue of Wellington seated atop a rearing horse in gilt to front board and blind to rear. Blind decorative border to front and rear board. Spine has five stamped bands with gilt titling to second compartment, volume to fourth, and publisher to last. 216pp+plates. Five beautiful plates engraved by Samuel Freeman and Robert Young, and three maps by A. Petermann at front. A good book with boards moderately soiled and occassional minor white flecking to boards. Dark stain near bottom of rear joint and to bottom edge of rear board. Spine tips and corners gently bumped and a bit frayed. Top edge dust stained. Inside has small early bookplate of Alexander Davidson, member of the Royal Astronomical Society, to front pastedown. Hinges cracked at front and rear. Plates somewhat foxed and dampstained to fore edge with brown stain to first map and faint black line to rear of second, but still generally bright and clear with tissue guards intact. Damp stain to bottom corner and fore edge throughout, but text is otherwise bright and clean. Rear free endpaper a bit frayed, else text block near-very good.
