The willingness to listen to and learn from others is essential for the survival and development of a person and a community. But particularly when we are looking for revelation knowledge; at some point we must go beyond the path created by others. Revelation is the meeting of a unique self with its source of meaning and being; that is God or its Creator. Therefore, inevitably, at least a part of the path we each walk must be unique and totally unexplored. If we do not do the work that only each of us can do, then that is a loss for all of us.If we are to grow in that unique mission that we each have, we must press on each day beyond even the unique path we walked yesterday, and before that. But we must do all this and still remember how to get back to community, our covenant and joint enterprise with the rest of humanity. They include the spiritual ancestors who came before us, our brothers and sisters of today, and our spiritual heirs of the future. For, we are one. We are many, but we are also one. Each of us depends upon the legacy of our spiritual ancestors, and also on the ideas, comfort and support of our fellow travelers. There is a part of our present and future that only each single one of us can create. We don’t know who will benefit from our efforts now and in the future. Our greatest contribution may be something that seems to us as an insignificant word or act.
