Continue Laughing continues where Reiner's celebrated first novel, Enter Laughing, left off. The year is 1942, and Bronx-born David Kokolovitz, who longs to be a matinee idol, hears opportunity's knock. So it's goodbye family, girlfriend, and job at the Foreman Sewing Machine Works in New York and hello Avon Shakespearean Company, a lively troupe of players who tour the Deep South. In this strange new land, David soon discovers just how unprepared he is for the hazards of too-tight tights, too-long soliloquies (just wait for the uproarious Shakespearean double-talk!), and the complications of a new romance with a plantation belle. But David's life changes even more after he is drafted and signs on with the Special Services to entertain the troops in the Pacific. While the boys cheer his antics from Hawaii to Iwo Jima, David discovers a gift for comedy. The spotlight he dreamed of finally shines on him - and lasting love is waiting in the wings.
