Sophisticated Alligators was conceived at Avery Island, Louisiana, the home of Tabasco sauce, at four o'clock on a steamy April morning. This occurred when the author, Noel Miller, led a fishing expedition that coincided with the local alligators' mating season.Since then, alligators have invaded Ms. Miller's imagination; her creatures, like most humans, are motivated by territory, food, and sex. Alligators are widely believed to be man-eaters. Each is suspected of containing a human - digested or not. But Ms. Miller contends that each of us contains his or her own alligator - acknowledged or not. These secret alligators have a need to communicate, and in Sophisticated Alligators Ms. Miller gives voice to these heretofore unexpressed yearnings.
