Description

The author worked for John F. Kennedy while he was a Democratic Senator from Massachusetts and also for John Sherman Cooper, a Republican Senator from Kentucky. Later, he served as a Special Counsel to President Kennedy and his successor, Lyndon B. Johnson. Still later, he led the Energy Policy Task Force of the Consumer Federation of America and was a campaign manager for the 1972 presidential campaign of George McGovern. In this memoir, he describes those experiences, reflecting in particular on his role in various positions as they relate to general practices of government.
