Patterson (an attorney and employee benefits specialist) packs in lots of information in a readable style. She describes reasons women have different planning needs from men, most of which relate to a generally more marginal status in the economy; but the guidance is applicable to a large number of men as well, and the focus on women seems contrived as a marketing ploy (making the assumption that women are less scared of the topic if "woman" is in the title). With few changes, the book could be titled The Working Person's Guide and still deal with the particular problems some women face. Annotation copyright Book News, Inc. Portland, Or.
