Cooney (Centre College) prefers anthologies over monographs to teach philosophy, but finds readings on the philosophy of mind so technical that students must be brought up to speed on terminology and basic concepts before they can understand them. Therefore he includes a summary introduction and critical conclusion, footnotes, a glossary without pronunciation guides, and one or two substantial review questions for each reading. Two of the 34 readings are primers in the neuroscience and theory of computing to explain such widely used terms as brain events and Turing machine. He has not indexed the anthology. Annotation c.
