Instead of coverage of specific social problems, this volume attempts to do something else: explore the process by which some problems gain public attention. Obvious reasons, such as the amount of resources poured into in publicizing the issue are given consideration, but most of the attention is focused on the process of "framing" and the skillful use rhetoric. Each chapter includes a case study, along with a good amount of boxes and figures, most of which are updated for this edition. Each chapter ends with questions for student consideration. The volume as a whole closes with a seven page glossary of sociological terms, particular those related to political activism. Annotation ©2012 Book News, Inc., Portland, OR (booknews.com)
