Don't look now, but there are only five "rightist" regimes left in the entire Western Hemisphere. Peru was last to elect a leftist president, and Mexico will be next. Al-Qaeda has had nothing to do with this. Herein lies the culprit and its local source of political advisors and campaign funding. Blocking this incursion before it too greatly affects the homeland may take deploying lone infantry squads to isolated Combined Action Platoons (those shared with host-country police and soldiers) in Colombia, Panama, and Mexico. Part Three has the unconventional warfare techniques those squad members will need to contend with many times their number of drug runners and revolutionaries. It also shows how to blanket an area with constantly manned, yet still secret fire team zones. As America's first narco-counterinsurgency manual, this book could turn the tide in Afghanistan.

Parts One and Two of Tequila Junction describes a foreign-power assault on the Americas. While its objective has been political, it supports itself through local commodity trading (mostly in drugs). That makes it a well-veiled variant of 4th-Generation Warfare (that which is fought in the political, economic, psychological, and martial arenas simultaneously. Undermining this assault before it can too drastically affect the heartland will take deploying lone U.S. infantry squads to Combined Action Platoons (those shared with host-country police and soldiers) and patrol bases in Colombia, Panama, and possibly even Mexico. Part Three has the unconventional warfare techniques those U.S. squads will need to survive many times their number of drug traffickers and narco-insurgents. Those techniques have been derived from the counterinsurgency methods of the Vietnamese, Chinese, Japanese, and Iranians (those armies with the most cultural predisposition toward 4GW). Closely following this book’s proposals would also permit victory in Afghanistan. "While the U.S. is focused on conflicts half a world away, Fourth Generation war is coming through our back door. As always, John Poole offers the best small-unit tactics and techniques for meeting the new 4GW threat (father of 4GW theory)." --William S. Lind "John Poole has written a thought-provoking and intriguing work in Tequila Junction. He has masterfully made the case for attention and action toward threats being ignored due to our myopic focus on Islamic extremism. This is another exceptional volume to add to his superb collection of works dealing with the new forms of conflict we face (former head of CENTCOM."--Gen. Anthony C. Zinni USMC (Ret.) "In 1861 Abraham Lincoln stated: 'The dogmas of the quiet past are inadequate to the stormy present. . . . We must think anew and act anew.' Lt.Col. John Poole has done just that in this excellent new book detailing how the true enemy of liberty is chaos and how America’s enemies thrive on the chaos caused by drugs, terrorism and unrest. The lessons of . . . the Marines . . . CAP program point the way to victory (professional military historican." --Kim B. Holien "Tequila Junction warns of a huge threat to . . . the country: the pernicious influence of China . . . in Latin America. Through exhaustive research and clear thinking, John Poole details the influence of drug . . . smuggling. . . . He . . . [gives] our military a clear way of combatting this problem . . . with light infantry acting like police: convert enemies instead of killing them. This is a must read for all levels of the military Presidio Press publisher emeritus)."--COL Robert V. Kane U.S. Army (Ret.) "John Poole has done it again!!! Forewarned is forearmed, and this book describes a growing trend in the Western Hemisphere that bears serious consequences . . . if it is not addressed soon. . . . The research is amazing and the bibliography extensive. . . . This should become the bible for the protection of our way of life. Read and absorb this fantastic book (Battle of Leyte Gulf ship commander)." --Vice Adm. Thomas R. Sargent USCG (Ret.) "Our current threat is multi-dimensional and multi-directional. . . . John Poole, cautions us to broaden our concerns beyond our geographically dispersed and distant threats to those much closer to home. The thought-provoking premise of “Tequila Junction” warns us of a global insurgency emerging to operate from within. It’s closer than we prefer to think (former commander of 1st Marine Division."--Maj.Gen. John H. Admire USMC (Ret.)
