In 1939 Austrian mountaineer Heinrich Harrer set out to climb a Himalayan mountain but ended up a prisoner in a British POW camp. Escaping the camp, he fled to Tibet where he was befriended by and tutored the teenage Dali Lama. Some 50 years later, film director Jean-Jacques Annaud told Harrer's story on film, and this book, besides including the screenplay written by Oscar-winning writer Becky Johnston, offers an account of that effort.
