Bela and Paul, two wild and crazy young mathematicians, are friends and graduate school roommates, and in love with the same woman, Alma. They fight it out by altering reality, using cutting-edge math to change which one gets the girl. The contemporary world they live in is not quite like this one, but very much like Berkeley, California. The two guys are trying to finish their degrees and get jobs. And it doesn't help that their unpredictable adviser, Roland, is a mad mathematical genius who has figured out a way to predict isolated and specific bits of the future that can cause a lot of trouble. Such as election results. And he has started to see monsters in mirrors. But a whole lot of reality gets changed in the process of these two guys messing with it, and soon all heaven and hell break loose. Those monsters are really there, and some of them are mathematicians from very different realities. Meanwhile, the creator of our reality is revisiting it to produce a better work. This novel is a romantic comedy with a whole corkscrew of SF twists.
