This is the third edition of a writer's handbook last updated in 2004 under the title Writer's Market Companion by Joe Feiertag and Mary Carmen Cupito. The editors of Writer's Digest have revised and updated this work to include a larger focus on marketing and publicity, as well as providing new content on the use of social networking sites, blogs, and websites. A new chapter on self-publishing has been added and state of the industry information has been brought current. Divided into four parts, the handbook guides new writers through major steps of the writing and publishing process beginning with choosing a type of writing, and covering such topics as hiring an agent, crafting query letters, marketing, promotion, building readership, and the business aspects of writing including accounting, contract negotiations, and digital rights. Two appendixes containing a pricing guide and a glossary of publishing terms are included. This reference can be used in conjunction with Writer's Market.
