Previously owned by Mary Elizabeth Sherman Fitch with her signature dated April 1897 to the top of the front blank. Fitch, later Mary Elizabeth Sherman Fitch Armistead, was the granddaughter of General William Tecumseh Sherman. Charles Ewing was the foster brother and brother-in-law of General Sherman.
