In order for survivors to locate the graves of deceased Union soldiers after the Civil War, the Quartermaster General's Office in 1865 began issuing the burial rosters of various cemeteries which came to be known as the Roll of Honor . The present volume serves as an alphabetical listing of the known Union dead, indexed by volume and page in the original volumes.
