Many coastal areas of the U.S. are at risk for tsunamis. This report by The National Research Council's Committee on the Review of the Tsunami Warning and Forecast System, concludes that while progress has been made since Congress passed laws in 2004 (in response to the Indian Ocean tsunami) to increase efforts to detect and minimize the impact of such events, preparedness challenges remain. Report recommendations include national risk assessment. Included are maps of the Deep-Ocean Assessment and Reporting of Tsunamis (DART) network, a list of committee and staff members, tsunami sources, and a case study of Hawaii's response to the 2010 Chilean earthquake-generated tsunami.
