This small but lovely catalog was created to accompany an exhibition held at the Art Institute of Chicago in 2002. Each of 38 works is reproduced in a color plate and discussed in a lengthy catalog entry. Pal, a curator at the Art Institute, provides a detailed introduction on the exhibition's theme of animals in Indian art and life; she was joined in preparation of this book by Seid, a researcher and exhibition coordinator in the Institute's department of Asian art. The volume includes a bibliography but no index. It is distributed by the U. of Washington Press. Annotation c. Book News, Inc., Portland, OR (booknews.com)
