Itineraries of the mind towards memory's distant lands and uncharted worlds of the imagination: the journeys of Fausto Melotti, a tireless and ironic storyteller, traverse an entire oeuvre. In fact, the artist once wrote that art is a journey, and I Viaggi (Journeys) is the title of a collection of poems and drawings published posthumously in 2002, much of which is included in this publication. The journey retold in this volume, comprised of discrete moments conveyed through images and words, joins the soul of Fausto the poet together with that of Melotti the artist. A selection of rare snapshots by Melotti's close friend Ugo Mulas reveal the deep understanding that existed between the two men. With delicate sensitivity these photos reveal the intimate connection between the artist and his work, as well as the reciprocal respect and admiration that bound Melotti and Mulas together.
