This history of the 1960s is as much "of the period" as it is "about the period," admits O'Neill (history, Rutgers U.) in his new introduction, written at a time when liberals such as him were almost as horrified by the excesses of the New Left and the Black Power movement as they were by the presidency of Richard Nixon. His account of the decade focuses primarily on politics, but often dips into cultural and other developments.
